Buying cannabis for recreational use online is not legal anywhere in Australia. What’s below is the real, regulated pathway that lets people legally access cannabis as a prescribed medicine — the only lawful way to have it delivered to your door.

1. Online consultation

You book a telehealth appointment with a doctor who is registered to prescribe medicinal cannabis. The consultation covers your medical history, what you’ve already tried, and whether cannabis-based treatment is appropriate for your condition.

2. Authorised prescription

If the doctor determines you’re a suitable candidate, they issue a prescription under the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s Special Access Scheme (Category B) or as a registered Authorised Prescriber. This is the same general regulatory structure used for other restricted medicines — there is no shortcut around it.

3. Licensed pharmacy dispensing

A pharmacy licensed to dispense Schedule 8 or Schedule 4 medicines fills the prescription and posts it to you in compliant, discreet packaging. Products, strengths, and available forms (oils, flower, capsules, vapes) vary by prescriber and manufacturer.

4. Ongoing prescriber review

Most clinics require periodic follow-up consultations to renew your prescription and monitor how treatment is going.

What this pathway is not

It’s not a way to buy cannabis without a medical reason, and it’s not faster or cheaper than seeing a doctor in person — it’s the same medical process, delivered via video call.
